Our first experience with First Impression was at the Home Show. We saw the most beautiful gate we'd ever beheld, and *had* to have one. It was truly an impulse decision--we could not live without such a gorgeous piece of artistic wonder. The craftsmanship was inspiring. We scheduled a sales appointment. This is where things got disappointing. We had money set aside and were ready and eager to make this purchase. All we needed was the salesman to explain to us what our options were and help us dream up possibilities--gate making and installation is not our area of expertise, and looked to the salesman for guidance. Instead, the salesman advised the gates would be out of our budget, even though he never asked or knew what our budget was. He spent more time trying to talk us OUT of a purchase than trying to sell us a gate! He talked about complications in installation, and as we asked ways to make it work, he insisted we'd have to find a contractor on our own, even though we did not understand what needed to be contracted out. We were left feeling confused and hopeless and having no idea what steps to take to purchase the gate of our dreams. We were so disappointed and frustrated, but not deterred, and we tried again months later. We went to the show room looking for another sales person. The second one was better, in that he was at least willing to sell us a gate and was helpful. Yet, we needed a creative soul with ideas to help us dream up a custom work of art, and although he tried and was responsive, he wasn't coming up with original ideas and the experience was lackluster. We once again were at a stand still and didn't know where to go from there. We *nearly* gave up on our dream to purchase a First Impression door. It felt hopeless--like we would never find the right person to help us design and install our iron masterpiece. We visited the Mesa Swap Meet. Enter salesman Ray, and our luck finally turned around! Ray was extremely astute, and recognized that we had passed his stand not once, but TWICE, and that we had wistfully stared at his doors with both desire and disappointment. He wanted to know our story without any high pressure sales tactics. He was empathetic as we told him our tale of woe, wanting to make a purchase, but being met with two prior poor sales experiences. We were just too heartbroken to risk having a third bad sales experience and wanted nothing to do with First Impression. Ray asked us to let him make a wrong right. He asked if we were willing to meet with one more sales person, and he promised he would send the BEST, and we'd have the experience we should have had from the get go. We reluctantly agreed, not expecting much, except continued disappointment. Thank you Ray! Because due to Ray's intervention and support, he started the domino effect of awesomeness, and we got to work with Gary. He may be the best salesman of all time in the history of ever! Gary was not only a joy of a person, who was very interesting and well spoken, he listened to us for hours and dreamed with us! He showed us every option, gave us ideas, but never took control of our project. He supported our decisions and made us feel good about them. He took care of all the details. Gary not only listened well, he also relayed our ideas to a CAD artist, Kelly, who brought our ideas to life EXACTLY as we envisioned them, but unbelievably, even *more* beautiful than we could have ever imagined! The process was so quick and seamless, and I was in awe that they got the design right the first time. EXACTLY what we wanted, but better, no improvements needed! It was SO hard waiting two months, because we were so excited, but it was well worth the wait. We set up an installation appointment many weeks out, and rescheduled work and other appointments. One thing I would suggest, is more communication between the installation appointment and the date of install; we never knew if the door was ready and if it would actually be installed or not. The day before install, which felt like the day before Christmas, we got a call that the door would NOT be ready. We were DEVASTATED! It was truly crushing, like telling a kid they'd have to wait til New Year's to open their Christmas gifts. Worse yet, it was really inconvenient, since we'd taken off work. We advised it was really not okay. Although it was very disappointing and unprofessional, we DO have to give First Impression kudos for making up for the small glitch; they stayed overtime to finish the door so that it could be installed on time. Hip hip hooray! The installers were nothing short of incredible. Mike and his assistant had their work cut out for them, operating like skilled surgeons on a house that was built back in the day on County Land with less than optimal standards. They pulled out the power tools and utilized decades of problem solving experience at its finest to make that door fit. The door itself is a work of majestic, awe-inspiring artistic wonder. Since it's been installed, it has inspired not one, but a handful of friends, to purchase First Impression doors and other decorative works of iron goodness. We sit outside in lawn chairs daily now and just stare at our door in awe. Every morning I wake up, the first thing I do is walk to the entryway to look at the door. I always say, "whoa. That is the most beautiful door I've ever seen. That was the best ridiculous sum of money I've ever spent. I'd do it all again." Speaking of price point, although not inexpensive, I feel it's an incredible investment and well worth the price. I feel it is worth more than what I paid for it. As for the functionality of the door, it is SO unbelievably solid and secure. It is air tight. It is a gorgeous work of art. It is impenetrable (literally, we locked ourselves out and thought we'd have to move). It is *way* more energy efficient than our last door--the house is actually cold now. Bugs can't crawl in. We also look forward to enjoying the fresh air with the screens in the autumn and spring. So, overall: our first experiences were unfortunate and nearly completely turned us off of the company. Once we met Ray and got a good salesman, we could not be more pleased. We are already eager and ready to start our next First Impression project--a matching front gate! What we first would have rated a 0/10 experience, after giving the company a third chance, based on some awesome employees and the equal awesomeness of the product, we've changed out opinion to an 11/10. We'll be a repeat customer, for sure (and will keep our fingers crossed we have the exact same team). Thank you Ray, Gary, Kelly, whoever made our door, and First Impression :)
