I lived with a bad back and leg pain for over a year, tying everything from chiropractic to PT to dietary supplements in the hope that I could fix things without having back surgery. Nothing helped. After finally getting an MRI and meeting with Dr Mir, he explained that my L5S1 disc herniation was easily correctable with a minimally invasive microdisectomy–a surgery he had performed many times before with overwhelming success. He didn't pressure me or anything like that, rather he pointed me to some of the research he had done on cases like mine and told me to read up. After doing what I felt was my "due diligence", I made the choice to move forward with surgery and had a meeting with Dr. Mir to talk about expectations: the surgery itself (it's outpatient), how much downtime I would need, and what kind of progress I could expect after 3 months, 6 months, etc. so long as I took things slow and adhered to a PT program. As soon as I woke up from the operation my leg pain was gone. I took a lap around the hospital giggling like a little kid; I had not been able to walk without leg pain for over a year. Today, I'm 5 months post-op, and while I'm not fully back to my old tricks, my leg pain is gone and I can again partake in activities that a year ago were out of the question. Overall, my experience with Dr. Mir was excellent. He brought a tremendous body of knowledge to the table, helped assuage my fears on all things "back surgery", and did it with an affability that I didn't find in other doctors. I would highly recommend Dr Mir if you are in the market for an orthopedic spine surgeon.
