Wow. Dr. Paul Grin really listens. Seriously listens. To everything you say. And when you're done, he's still listening --in case you have something else to say. He never pounces on the last word of your sentence; he holds a professional pause on the chance that your own last word might prompt an afterthought that could add insight to his upcoming diagnosis and treatment of your case. He is amazing. With all his credentials and years experience, Dr. Grin is totally unassuming; he sits on a lower stool, creating the unintimidating position of a physician to a patient. He is kind, keenly aware, brilliantly educated, and both naturally and professionally gifted. Dr. Grin's competence effects a contagious calmness. His talent, coupled with state of the art equipment, impeccably clean surroundings, and placid ambience, all complete the atmosphere for a patient in pain to relax, tell her medical story, and become the recipient of help on the way. After our very first appointment, my husband and I wanted to invite Dr. Grin to our home for dinner since we were resigned to the impossibility of adopting him. I have TMJ with consequences including problematic dental care, chewing, and just plain pain. Dr. Grin identified and confirmed the diagnosis and cause of my TMJ. One specific success was to stop and rest the jaw for five minutes after each fifteen minutes of a dental procedure. What a difference: less pain in the short run, and weeks/months less recovery time in the long. Not to mention, improved nutrition due to my increasing ability to eat/chew food. AND, I'm still a relatively new patient looking forward to more benefits. Dr. Grin selected an expert staff: Ruth, Blanca and Carmen who are excellent.

Dr. Grin and his staff are professional, attentive and very friendly. Dr. Grin takes the time to listen to all of your concerns. Other doctors would only talk to me for 5 minutes and offer only one treatment option. He was willing to let me try other treatment options that I had been interested in. If you are looking for a doctor who empathizes with the patient, I definitely recommend Dr. Grin.

My life was out of control after I suffered chronic nerve damage from a dental procedure. The pain was all consuming. As the mother of a toddler and a full time nursing student, I wondered how I'd manage any of my responsibilities after this injury. But, Dr. Grin and his staff have helped me to gradually regain control of this pain, and for this I am eternally grateful. By the time I showed up at Dr. Grin's office, I'd been to dozens of dentists, and doctors, and all of them were equally clueless about neuropathic facial pain. Dr. Grin, however, is a professor and expert in the field of orofacial pain. He has taken the time to understand the cause and triggers of my pain. Of particular note is how amenable he has been to my input every step of the way, and has repeatedly gone out of his way to try new approaches to treat this pain. He even ordered a special topical compound that has helped tremendously. I currently use a custom invisalign stent (designed by Dr. Grin) that allows me to apply these topical medications at all times, while talking/laughing, and it's unnoticeable to others. This has been so extremely helpful. While I am still dealing with this pain, I no longer feel that I am completely at its mercy. Every day, I feel a bit more in control of my life, and that feeling is priceless!! Thank you to the amazing staff at South Bay TMJ for their innovative medicine and devotion to their patients! I look forward to each visit (I drive from Carlsbad to see them!).

I have been going with Dr. Grin for about a year now. I highly recommend him he is so patient, and doesn't rush you at all in meeting him. When I started I was in extreme pain due to Trigeminal Neuralgia. Dr Grin helped my pain to be under control with the right pain medication. His front staff is also very friendly and accommodating unlike other facilities. Facility - Immaculately clean, positive, 100% professional and fully equipped.

As a newer patient to Dr. Grin, I have been impressed with the culture of patient care as demonstrated by an inviting office, on-time appointments and an approachable team willing to explain both medical and insurance situations. I appreciate Dr. Grin's ability to manage a dynamic office with multiple patients while making enough time for each patient to get the individualized care and Q&A that his patients need.

I have had TMJ since a child, constant popping cracking dislocation but rarely had pain until... six months ago I woke up with lock jaw like symptoms. After four months with minimal range of motion and excruciating pain, I had my first appointment with Dr. Grin and began a regimen of at home exercises and anti-inflammatory treatments. Two months later I now have my full range of motion back, pain is minimal and have an non intrusive appliance to realign my jaw to normal for the first time in my life. Although early in the realignment process I have noticed an significant change and am excited for the end result. Dr. Grin is a genius! He diagnosed my problem and got me out of pain on the first visit. His personality is very calming and his office surroundings are serene and soothing. He is punctual, caring, knowledgeable and he listens to his patients and explains every step of treatment very simply. His staff is also efficient and friendly. I suggest to anyone with any kind of facial pain to go to Dr. Grin first and get out of pain fast!

Dr. Grin is amazing! He is super polite and charismatic and wants the best for his patients. The staff in the office are also amazing and make you feel very welcome. I had TMJ and went to several doctors who gave me sympathy and pills but no resolution of the basic problem. Fortunately, my ENT doctor recommended Dr. Grin. His staff gave me a prompt appointment, he and the staff introduced me to exercises and medication that gave me significant immediate relief. He explained what MEDICARE and my insurance would provide and what cost that I may incur for new mouth guards and treatment. After about 2 months, my TMJ problem has been over 90% resolved. Dr. Grin is probably the most thorough and most patient doctor I have ever worked with. His office staff is also very nice and patient. The atmosphere of the office is very gentle and comforting. On my first visit, he sat with me and went through a very extensive health history questionnaire. Every visit after, he takes a brief followup assessment, just to track progress. Probably the best part, though, is that he takes a conservative approach to pain management as I am not one who likes to take a lot of medications for pain or problems. I like his approach to treatment and would highly recommend Dr. Grin and his office staff to anyone needing relief from Jaw pain and headache management.

I had been suffering from pain and fogginess in my head for months and I couldn't figure out why. After going to several doctors, I was finally referred to Dr. Grin for TMJ. At the first consultation, Dr. Grin was able to diagnose my problem and prescribed some medications to alleviate my TMJ issues and I felt better within a few days! He is very thorough and explains things very clearly. He and his office staff are all very professional, courteous and organized. Definitely one of the best doctors I've ever seen.

I am completely satisfied with my experiences at Dr. Grin’s office. His staff is very pleasant and welcoming all while being super efficient. I’ve been to the office 4 times now and have not experienced any unreasonable wait times, in fact I’ve always been taken back within minutes of completing the paperwork. Dr. Grin is very caring and takes the time to really understand you and your reason for being at his office. He is the one of the most patient and thorough physicians that I have experienced. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable during my consultation. I was really impressed and relieved that his first line of treatment for my TMJ issue was not at all invasive. I need to share my experience with this amazing Dr. My dentist referred me to Dr. Grin for my TMJ issues! I made an appointment and thank God I did! From the moment he walked into the room, I had the feeling I hit the jackpot! He is the most personable Dr. I have ever experienced! I was also impressed by his knowledge of my issues! He is gentle and thorough! I will guarantee you will not be disappointed with his care! I also want to acknowledge his staff! They are friendly, professional and caring! I am UCLA orofacial resident. He taught me everything that I have to know about orofacial pain, which was not only knowledge but also about how to care patients. He is the best teacher and I want to say all patients can trust him pesonality, skill, and knowledge.

I had to bring my 8 year old to see Dr. Grin. I was impressed with the staffs knowledge and kindness. I was happy to find Dr. Grin personable and also kind. He explained everything in Laymans terms to help my son and myself understand what our options were. I will definitely recommend Dr. Grin to my friends and family!
