We had a great experience at Midwest Vasectomy Reversals, starting with the pre-procedure communication. Everything we needed to know was emailed to us months in advance, including how to prepare for the procedure, hotels in the area to stay at, and where to park and find the office. Once we arrived, the staff was kind and welcoming, and we met with Dr. Sommers who went over every detail of what to expect during the procedure. There were specific instructions for the partner to follow while the procedure was taking place in order to procure the bag of frozen peas as well as the post-procedure pain medication. Both partners were able to communicate with each other via texting while the procedure was taking place. During the procedure the doctor and his assistant kept the patient calm, explaining what was happening but also distracting the patient with casual conversation. The patient was kept at ease throughout the process. Once the procedure was complete, the patient and partner had a post-procedure meeting with Dr. Sommers who explained what to expect and what to look for in the following days and weeks. He provided detailed information, as well as contact information to get a hold of him with questions. He texted his cell phone number directly to the patient so that he could reach him if necessary. He then followed up personally the next day via text to check in on the patient's status. In the week following the procedure, this is some discomfort and soreness, but the pain has been minimal and manageable. The healing process has gone smoothly so far. We were very happy with our experience with Dr. Sommer's and his team, and would highly recommend!

I was hesitant to use an out of town Doctor, but this office had great reviews online so we decided to try. I'm thankful i trusted the reviews because the office was great. The staff was very friendly, the Doctor was very knowledgeable and really seemed like he cared about my comfort. The procedure didnt hurt at all after the anesthesia, but they checked in with me the entire time to make sure it didnt hurt. I was very please with the type of service I recieved for what i paid. I'm very thankful to the office, and cant wait to try to grow our family!

I won't lie to you, I was terrified to get this done while having no anesthesia. However, the actual procedure itself was way less painful than the vasectomy ever was. I felt minimal discomfort, if anything, the only part that was "slightly discomforting" was the numbing. Dr. Summers explained every step along the way during the procedure and I liked how he brought my wife in with me before and after to make sure she was educated on what to expect as well. Definitely recommend doing absolutely nothing for 2 weeks afterwards. Otherwise, hope we can report back here soon that we successfully got pregnant!

Dr Sommers and Kathy were fantastic. Kathy answered many questions prior to registration, once the procedure was scheduled and prior to the procedure day, all pre op instructions were clear and concise. The day of, Dr Sommers explains everything in great detail, he answered all questions pre and post op. The procedure it self was as expected and his concise post op instructions were spot on. The procedure was a little over an hour, painless, and we all had conversation during. Overall an easy, comfortable experience!

I can't say enough kind things about Dr. Sommer's and Midwest Vasectomy Reversals. From the start, there were many concerns: Will it hurt as bad? Will it work? Is the cost justified? If you're taking the time to read this review, then you clearly are passionate about having those answers before committing to such a life-changing procedure. Dr. Sommers was very personable the minute I got to his office, and his staff just as much so. He explained the procedure in detail and clearly laid out expectations, and no questions were left unanswered. Including but not limited to what to expect after surgery, the risks, and the outcome probability. The procedure itself was nearly painless! I was surprised at how much more comfortable I was in comparison to the original vasectomy. The reversal procedure started with a couple of taps of the device he used to numb the area, which I can equate to a flick on the shoulder from a finger. Then, I didn't feel a thing the rest of the process. All in it took about 1.5 hours for mine. The recovery for me personally was a bit longer than the original vasectomy, but nothing that I wasn't prepared for or would consider beyond my expectations for pain level. I also limited the amount of medication I used, so it may have made a difference had I used more pain control. After a few weeks, I felt almost completely healed, but I followed Dr. Sommers's instructions to continue taking it easy for a full three weeks. Since then, things have been fine, with no complaints. I'm scheduled for counts to be checked in a few months. The cost is leaps and bounds worth it. My options were to schedule a $12,000 procedure with a local school hospital, where a resident who's maybe never done the procedure performs it, or pay MVR and have a kind and caring staff perform the procedure that they do weekly several times. Will it work? That's obviously never a question anyone can answer. The only thing you can be sure of is that Dr. Sommers and his team are kind and professional, have an excellent success rate, and will do everything they can to give you the best chance at having a successful procedure. The rest is dependent on your individual circumstances.

Thorough explanation of pre and post-op instructions, quick procedure with much less pain than anticipated, only pain is when numbing is done and it’s tolerable, didn’t feel a thing after that. Dr and nurse both accommodating and easy to reach if needed, both before and after the procedure. 5 out 5 stars would recommend for quality of work and price.

Everything went great. There was almost no discomfort. I took some ibuprofen the first day but didn’t need to even fill the prescription for pain medication. The staff was great as well and the communication was very good.

My experience with the reversal was exceptional. Dr. Sommers was very thorough with explaining the procedure. Little to no pain throughout the procedure. Recovery has been good with some discomfort but very manageable. I highly recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversals if you want to have that procedure done. I wanted to get the reversal done but was hesitant about cost and pain that I experienced during vasectomy. Midwest Vasectomy Reversals has lower cost (less than half of some others) and uses the same microscopic technology, repairing the vas on both sides like higher price places offer. Dr. Sommers carefully carried out the procedure taking special care to ensure I was comfortable and feeling no pain during the course of the procedure at times adding additional numbing as required. It was a very different experience than vasectomy, really no pain to speak of due to the care taken during procedure. I was very glad that I had it done here.

Before scheduling an appointment, I read some of the great reviews on Dr. Sommers and his work. I must say he didn’t disappoint. I felt no pain throughout the entire procedure. I was very comfortable. He and his staff were very courteous and professional. Would definitely recommend Dr. Sommers.

Local anesthesia was more than enough to control the pain. I didn't feel any of the incisions or sutures to the scrotum. Any concerns I had as far as recovery were answered INSANELY fast via email correspondence. I am still recovering and taking things easy, but I'm up and moving around with ease in under two weeks. Once I'm all healed up and we have baby photos, we will definitely review again. (name displayed changed for anonymity)

Dr. Sommers did a thorough job of explaining what he would be doing before the procedure, and answered all of my questions. I followed all of the post-op directions, and have healed up quite nicely with no complications. I was able to get by with only ibuprofen for the first week post-op, and never had to use additional painkillers. I am not sure I will ever find out if my wife and I will be able to conceive, as I had the procedure done primarily for health reasons (my sanity) going forward. If you are on the fence about having this procedure done, do not hesitate. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The low cost at first had us skeptical but after reading Dr. Sommers’s message on his website I knew that he was genuine in his practice and based off of that we knew he was the doctor for us! The pain was relatively low and he explained the whole process to both my wife and I before the procedure began and made sure we understood how everything was going to go step by step and answered any questions we had. Both Dr. Sommers and staff were great to work with. We are blessed that we get to have another chance at starting a family again!

I had a vasectomy 3 years ago. It was a horrible and painful experience. I was looking for a reversal and came across Dr. Sommers. Because of the issues with my vasectomy, I was very skeptical of having a reversal done with only local anesthesia. But, because of the significant cost difference, I was at least open to the idea. Ultimately, I had the reversal performed by Dr. Sommers. There was next to no pain during the procedure. And, the recovery time was quicker than the original vasectomy. I am very happy with my decision and would recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone desiring a reversal. 5 stars.

In summary- I would highly recommend Dr. Sommers for a vasectomy reversal. There are two parts that I would like to cover. One- Dr. Sommers was great- We scheduled the appointment time on the website and paid the $500 deposit. Afterwards we were contacted by email with instructions of what and what not to do the week and day of the surgery. We paid the remaining amount and met in his office first to discuss the steps of the procedure and any complications that must be disclosed. This is something that he has been through many times, and it shows. He shows a great amount of confidence while going over the complications and gave me plenty of time to read everything. I honestly can't think of anything that he said that was not already provided by email before going to the office (all the directions that they give are very precise). After the consultation and a final bathroom stop, I was off to the procedure room. Cleanliness seemed to be a top priority and there are specific instructions that he gives so that items are not contaminated. Even the places that you stand compared to him has been thought out and provides a sense of modesty. The procedure started with him washing the area, alcohol swab and a "squirt gun" that injects numbing meds under the skin locally. This was the worst part for me, which isn't bad at all, but the only time that you really feel anything. Everything after the meds had time to react just felt like someone was pressing against me with a huge ball of cotton. I could tell something was going on, but it just felt tingly like when your arm falls asleep, even less. Then meds by needle are injected, with no real feeling. The nurse/assistant then comes in and the procedure starts. I really can't tell you much about that because as I said, you don't really feel anything. There is a sanitation blanket laid across you that will keep you warm even though the room feels cold. He had music playing softly which was nice and they did a decent job keeping me talking. I know this doesn't seem like the time for small talk, but I have seen so many people stop breathing in situations like this that I think this just may be their way of remedying that. When one side was complete, I was able to text my wife to let her know of the progress and then when the other side was done, I texted again to let her know to come back to get me. Once dressed, we met in his office again to go over reasons that you may need to call him or another Dr. and he provided us with his personal cell number for emergency contact. I highly recommend Dr. Sommers. Two- My experience- I was 15 years past vasectomy and the original procedure went fine, but I had major pain while ejaculating for years afterward. The last couple years have been relatively pain free, but I was nervous. Dr. Sommers provided a prescription that needs to be filled in MO, but I did not take it. I didn't feel the need to take anything most of the time, but I did take the Ibuprofen that was suggested. We drove 5 hours to the office and returned the same day. For the first hourish I felt completely fine and comfortable with ice over the area. I think the local that is given at the procedure wore off after that. I kept ice on for the rest of the ride other than one bathroom break of less than 10 min. By the time that we were home the pain had subsided significantly, but I kept ice on for the rest of the night. Yes, this is a lot of ice (I bought 20 lbs and used half). Yes, the bag leaked and I got the couch wet. Yes, I was wearing a winter hat and hoodie inside to stay warm the whole time, but I was not complaining about pain either. The first day I was swollen bigger than my fist with bruising that looks like someone painted them purple. The bruising never spread after the first 6 hours and the swelling did not go down over the first 48 hours. All the pain that I had felt before this was like the swelling was going to burst out of me and it didn't matter where I touched. While the swelling was going down on the third day, the testicles themselves and the tubes above them seemed to be in pain, nothing around them. I mention this because before this, there was no getting around the discomfort regardless of position etc. After this I felt that if I held them and walked, rolled over etc., there was no discomfort, but if I left them hang or roll from one thigh to the other there was. On the fourth day I switched from briefs to boxers and nearly all the pain was gone. I did have an issue when standing or using my ab muscles that felt like there was something tugging up on them from about 4 inches below my belly button and off to each side. I double checked with Dr. Sommers about that and verified that it was not concerning to him. This faded and by the one week mark I was still swollen, but only felt pain when bumping into myself. I found sitting on a wooden chair better than a padded chair because of this. First activity was nothing to be worried about. There is mention of discoloration the first time or two, but this was not an issue and there was no pain whatsoever. It has been 4 weeks now. The only swelling is on the left side above the testicle, but it is not sore even when provoked. Overall, much better than the original vasectomy. Should you do it? I would say that the most intimidating part of the whole experience was driving into a neighborhood that I have never been and having to be a passenger on the way out. The office is very close to the off ramp of the freeway which made navigating there a breeze. It is an older part of town and the building looks like a middle school from the 70's, but I checked it out on Google street view before going and knew what to expect. I grew up in the suburbs and have a job where hypervigilance is a way of life, so this is probably not an issue for most people. I would just say the atmosphere is more dentist office with Fords and Chevys in the lot than University Hospital with Euro cars lined up. My wife sat in the car while waiting and I was not worried about her. Inside of the building is about the same, clean, but needs some paint. Once you get into the office all of that is gone. Everything looks like it was bought/installed yesterday and is very clean. You can tell that the office is very well taken care of and that gave me confidence that I would be too. Does the price seem like you are going to have the procedure in the back of a van? I had that thought once. No. You really need to listen to the procedure and the expectations given to you beforehand. If you go to a hospital they are going to put you under (for an additional cost) then do the procedure that Dr. Sommers will perform. Dr. Sommers will check for sperm in the tubes (I had some visible right away) before sowing you back together. At the hospital they will check for sperm and if none is found they will do an ADDITIONAL procedure to attach the tube more directly to the testicle. All for the price 4 times more than Dr. Sommers. This is why when I checked on pricing I was quoted four to twelve thousand. Four thousand if they do what Dr. Sommers is doing plus anesthesia and twelve thousand if they start one procedure, but have to complete two. Once I understood the breakdown in pricing my concern about pricing was gone, knowing full well that the more intensive attachment procedure would not be completed. It sounds cheesy, but the hardest part was getting into the office. I was calm as can be once I was there. I believe you will be too. I have absolutely no regrets.

I was dreading my reversal after hearing about bad experiences from friends out of state. Dr Sommers was friendly, the procedure was painless and less expensive than other facilities. The recovery was surprisingly easy. Much easier than getting a vasectomy. If a reversal is in your future, I highly recommend Dr Sommers.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Sommers! He and his staff were a pleasure to work with. The procedure itself went very smoothly - no actual pain, just some mild discomfort initially during the first portion. Very similar experience to my vasectomy. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone considering this procedure. Apart from everything mentioned so far, the cost is also very reasonable. What he charges is a fraction of what some of the major medical systems in the St Louis area would charge for a similar procedure.

I was skeptical about getting this done. My fiance and I looked everywhere to find something affordable! Dr. Sommers is the best! We drove from TN to MO to have this procedure done. The local anesthesia was enough to control the pain which was barley noticeable. Dr. Sommers and his staff are very understanding. If you are thinking about getting a Reversal this is your place!
