The entire procedure took less than 2 hours. Dr. Sommers is very knowledgeable and professional. Pain was minimal and tolerable after making it home. Follow the directions and just take it easy especially the first couple days. I had mine done on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. I would recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone looking to having this procedure done. The entire staff was great and made it a lot less stressful. I hate needles and am very averse to pain, especially in sensitive places. I was very nervous and anxious about the procedure, despite being well informed by Dr Sommers' office before coming down for the procedure. As we arrived at the office, I was very pleased with how quickly and diligently Dr Sommers explained everything and it made me feel a bit more comfortable. It also helped that there was Christian music playing in his office, since I'm a pastor. As the procedure was beginning, I was told what was happening and how he was progressing, as well as just having general chit-chat throughout the procedure, which made me feel even more at ease. The procedure itself was nearly painless after the initial 'shots'. Those weren't too painful, but they did sting a bit, but nothing worse than a quick needle poke. Once those kicked in, I hardly felt anything on the right side. When he switched to the left side, I felt much more discomfort and even some pain, which Dr Sommers noticed immediately in my expression and demeanor, so he gave a few more shots and after those shots, I didn't feel anything on that side either. Overall I was incredibly surprised by how little pain I experienced during the procedure and even following. I only took a few pain killers after (though I closely followed the doctor's instructions) and the most discomfort I felt after the procedure was from having to shave that area.

My wife and I were considering a reversal for some time but were still a bit uneasy about a few details: primarily the use of general anesthesia and to an extent, the cost. I learned about Dr. Sommers from a friend who went for a reversal and had nothing but positive things to say. After doing some research, I booked an appointment the next day. We drove from out of town and stayed at an Airbnb a few minutes from the office, which made for smooth travels the day before and day of the procedure. Like most guys, I was nervous just given the nature of the procedure. Dr Sommers described the process in great detail prior to the procedure. The experience itself was similar to the original vasectomy, with a local anesthetic applied and then no pain, only some pressure, for the duration of the operation. One item of note, between the lightning, the ‘blanket’ type covering they use, and me being a bit nervous, I sweated a lot during the procedure. So much so that I had to change my shirt afterwards. It wouldn’t hurt to have an extra shirt, just in case. Also, if you have a long drive home, bring a cooler with ice to keep the peas as cold as you can for the return trip. The healing process was about what Dr. Sommers described, both on his website and in person. The healing took longer for the reversal than for the original vasectomy. I know some guys had no bruising or swelling and were “back at it” within a week. Well, that wasn’t me. Nor was that the case for the guy who referred me. I emailed Dr. Sommers numerous times with questions mostly because I was unsure if I was healing properly. The swelling took 2 weeks and the bruising took 3-4 weeks, at least, to subside. After one week, my healing progress was minimal and I was quite discouraged; just walking more than a few steps was still difficult. The second week was much better and I was back to maybe 80% by the end of it. The third week saw most of the swelling disappear with only minor bruising. It was a solid month before I could move without any issues and probably 5 weeks before I could lift weights and run without limitation again. I’m saying this for the guys who don’t heal as quickly: it will get better, you just have to be patient and do your best not to overdo anything which might cause a setback. Dr. Sommers was professional and prompt in his responses. I believe I emailed him 4 or 5 times (yes, I was “that” guy) and he replied within hours every time. Truly amazing. His work is so appreciated. If you’re on the fence about the local anesthetic, the cost, or the travel: don’t be. Dr. Sommers is clearly very experienced and skilled at his craft. He is helpful, kind, courteous, and professional. I couldn’t recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversals any higher.

Dr.Sommers and staff were great! They were very informative about every step. The procedure was almost painless and I did as instructed after and had very little discomfort after, it was over all a very good experience and I highly recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversals!

I had my reversal done just over 2 weeks ago. And feeling fine. Little pain but icing and relaxing works. The dr was great and professional amd made me feel conformable and relaxed. Won't lie I was very nervous. Everything went great and would def recommend to anyone getting this procedure done.

We had a great experience. Easy to get in to make an appointment, great knowledge of pre and post procedures of what we need to do at home, and very friendly doctor. I did not have any pain during the procedure and after I suffered from some but followed doctor's order and was doing well after a week or two. My husband chose midwest vasectomy reversal because of a referral from a friend and also because of the lower price. We never thought we would be able to afford this procedure but thankfully a friend shared her story. My husband's pain was tolerable with ibuprofen. He did have some swelling and quite a bit of pressure while standing. He is currently 4 days out from surgery and doing well. Still sore and bruised but said he is gradually feeling better each day. Staff was friendly and Dr. Sommers made sure to give us all the information needed before he took my husband back. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions my spouse, or I had. They helped alleviate any nervousness my spouse or I might have had. They were very quick with the procedure and made sure I was comfortable at all times. I was nervous about being under local anesthesia, but the doctor and staff made sure that I had no issues or pain during the procedure. The location of the office made it really easy for me as I was coming from out of state. They are located very close to the highway which made it easy to locate and quick to access. They are right across the street from a pharmacy so any of the required post op care products were very easy to find and get. My spouse kept busy the whole time of the surgery getting all of the post op supplies, which really helped with her nerves. The cost was a highly important reason behind our decision, and I can say that the price and service cannot be beat. Do yourself a favor and use that extra money for the new one to come.

I was very worried about having the procedure 4 hours from home. We drove to the area the night before and stayed at hotel very close to the office. Staff was very accommodating and Dr. Sommers is great! Procedure seems much faster than anticipated within a comfortable environment. My spouse was able to grab the things needed at pharmacy across the street during the procedure and drive home the same day. The surgery wasn’t bad at all. After the surgery the pain was minimal and have been doing great . Can’t wait to hopefully have a baby soon ! We will keep you all posted !

My wife and I drove from Mississippi the night before our appointment and were able to leave to go home the same day. The staff and doctor were extremely accommodating and professional. There was plenty of time at the appointment for questions and explanation of the procedure and post procedure instructions. Every base was covered by this clinic. I had my vasectomy in 2016 and the reversal with this clinic in January 2022. In March 2022, we became pregnant with our baby boy who was born in November 2022. The reversal was much less painful and felt like a quicker recovery from the soreness than the original vasectomy. I did not have to take any of the prescribed pain pills, just took it easy, used ice and took ibuprofen as the doctor suggested. My success is not a guarantee of yours, but just know this staff and doctor has the skills to give your family a great chance of pregnancy.

Awesome Docter and staff. No pain at all, just took ibuprofen for swelling and didn’t even fill the pain med script. Only took an hour for the procedure. Doctor was very easy to talk to and texted me the next day to see how I was doing.

My husband was 43 at the time of his reversal, and had been fixed for 12 years previously. He was very nervous about doing it, but he said it was nothing! He said getting the initial vasectomy was way worse. He had some soreness, which you can't avoid, other than that he said they did such a great job. Phenomenal experience from start to finish. Dr. Sommers and his staff are professional, friendly, knowledgable, and caring. I am a surgeon myself, and chose Dr. Sommers after careful research of all available options. I came from 2 1/2 hours away, and so drove in the morning of the procedure with my wife. The office was easy to find, with plenty of convenient parking. The office is clean, and surgical suite comfortable. After the local anesthesia was administered (which was just as described "like a bee sting" and was itself almost painless) I had no discomfort or pain throughout the entire procedure. The procedure itself was just over an hour, and Dr. Sommers and his nurse/assistant kept me relaxed and comfortable the entire time with soothing music and pleasant conversation. Recovery was as advertised, and as long as you take it easy and use a bag of frozen peas for the 72 hours after surgery you will be fine. You won't find a better, more professional vasectomy reversal practice anywhere in the country, and I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Sommers and his staff to anyone who is considering the procedure.

My wife and I’s experience at Midwest Vasectomy Reversals was top notch! Dr. Sommers and Kathy were both very personable, knowledgeable, and friendly. I was very worried with my ability to be comfortable and numb during my reversal, as my vasectomy was very painful due to the lidocaine wearing off rather quickly. I DID NOT feel a thing while having my reversal completed by Dr. Sommers and his staff. The pain afterwards was very minimal as well and only yielded me having to use ice and ibuprofen for the discomfort. The $3,200 price just added to the experience as everywhere around us charged thousands of dollars more in comparison. We will highly recommend this facility to anyone who asks. The office was nice and the check in process was very efficient. The process (check-in through procedure) only took about 2 hours, which I was really impressed with. The doctor and staff were extremely kind and helpful throughout the whole process. The recovery was a little bit more painful than my vasectomy recovery and has lasted longer, but overall the pain is manageable as long as you follow the doctors post-op instructions. I highly recommend this practice even if you are coming from out of town.

They were very kind and made us comfortable. The procedure was relatively quick, I believe an hour and a half from when they first started working. The local anesthetic was enough, I never felt any pain, and did not need the stronger medicine once I got home. Dr. Sommers and his staff did a great job communicating with us before and after the procedure about what to expect, directions, and follow-up about how recovery was going.
