We started E-mailing MVR about 1-2 years ago, they have answered every single question that We have sent them with quick, in depth answers. We drove from about 1.5 hours away, my husband was very anxious about the pain during the procedure. When we arrived Dr. S went over the procedure, risks and possible outcomes. My husband is 43 and 8 years post OV My husband went into the procedure at 7:30 a.m. I left and walked to Walgreens and schnucks to get his medications and peas for the road. My husband texted me several times, telling me that the numbing was like a rubber band on the skin. He texted me after the first side was done telling me that the pain was very minimal. I returned around 8:55 a.m. I could hear my husband and the Dr chatting away. My husband was done with surgery at 9:06 a.m. We left the office and he had frozen peas on the whole way home, he took one pain pill and 600mg ibu. We arrived home arpund 1/130, he stayed on the couch until 10:30 and then to bed. I had him use a cold compress machine to keep at 43 degrees on the area untill 11:30 pm. He used frozen peas once in bed until he fell asleep. He did take 2.5 pain pills on day one to stay ahead of the pain. Minimal swelling, but mild dark bruising. Day two no pain meds just ibu. Only aches when he walks, no pain. He stayed on the couch most of the day, icing with the cold machine on and off, swelling was a little worse today and bruising was worse, but still not bad. Day 3 no pain meds, no pain. I would say healing is going great, I’m keeping him sitting for most of the day. Day 5-6 a little more swelling and bruising, and some discomfort, but no real pain. We’re now 2 weeks post op and everything is going well. He is keeping it easy to avoid any dicofort, but waking and everything is normal. He says he feels good and is anxious to get back to normal activity. I will update if anything negative happens and pregnancy! Good luck everyone, god bless. My wife and I came from Illinois to the clinic and were happy with our experience. Overall, the discomfort was less than my original vasectomy, and I only used ibuprofen over the next several days. During the procedure, the doctor was attentive to how I was feeling and constantly checking in, which I appreciated. We just arrived home to South Carolina from traveling to Dr. Sommers, had the procedure done Tuesday. I can’t speak highly enough of the wonderful experience we had. Dr. Sommers and his staff were both professional and comforting at the same time. I never felt awkward during the whole process. I had my vasectomy 7 years ago and we are hoping for the best! We plan on trying in a couple of months. Dr. Sommers made this process much less intimidating and made my wife and I both feel very at ease. Discomfort has also been minimal since the surgery I did not take anything but Advil thus far. Overall I would highly recommend Dr. Sommers and his team! We drove 6 hours to get to appointment, well worth it for the lower cost. Procedure was not fun, but very minimal pain. The fear of having the procedure was my problem. But I worried for nothing. 5 months later and wife is pregnant! So couldn’t be happier and well worth everything involved!!!

The local anesthesia was enough to control the pain and then frozen peas and ibuprofen did the trick for the pain and swelling afterwards for our long drive home. Gentlemen, just get to St. Louis and get it reversed! Forget how painful getting the vasectomy was, the reversal is no big deal. Just book a room at that weird English hotel the night before, it's only 4 blocks away and a nice stay. Dr Sommers is a master at this procedure. When you got snipped the doc was probably yanking and pulling and it felt like hell, almost like the doctor was relishing it. But believe me, the only minor pain you will feel will be at the very beginning when Dr Sommers uses the pen to apply the anesthesia, and it only feels like a small, weak rubber band is snapping your skin about a half dozen times. After that everything is completely numb for the entire time. I followed the post op icing schedule and never had significant swelling and only very minor bruising and only took pain meds the first day. Dr Sommers is extremely skilled at this and it is evident in the ease of his demeanor through the procedure--you know you are in the presence of a master. Please, please do not be deterred by the low price. He has stripped down all unnecessary overhead and staffing in order to serve his fellow man. This kind of expertise, in my experience, is only found in people who are passionately serving a higher purpose and that is why you should just get reconnected immediately so you can get back to what's important, making babies!

Dr. Sommers and his staff were very professional and made us feel comfortable from the minute we stepped in the door. We drove in from about 5 hours away and had no issues finding the clinic. Dr. Sommers was great. The procedure itself was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. When I did feel a bit of pain (due to lots of scar tissue on one side), Dr. Sommers immediately stopped and gave me more medication so that I wouldn't feel anything. Its almost time for my semen analysis so hopefully everything was successful.

I was skeptical at first because of the price difference between other places. I did research in addition to listening to DR. Sommers and his staff. They are highly professional. The surgery was very smooth and he explained everything in detail. I highly highly recommend!

We loved the cost of the procedure it was way more cost effective then everywhere we tried prior with a great payment plan through care credit. The staff and dr. Where great very friendly and welcoming. I had no pain at all through the procedure and manageable pain after. over all we couldn’t be happier with the decision we made they even called us personally one day after to check in and answer any questions we had about the healing process!

I was very nervous about having my reversal done. My vasectomy was absolutely miserable. My reversal was nothing like my vasectomy. The only pain was at the beginning with the anesthesia being administered and that was more discomfort than anything. Dr. Sommers was up front with me about everything and made sure the process was as easy as possible. I live about 2hrs away and the car ride home wasn't even very bad. I am glad I made the choice to go to Midwest Vasectomy Reversals. Dr. Sommers even called me the next day to check on me. Top notch in my book.

We were not excited about the surgery being in the St. Louis area, as we do not like that area, however the building was very easy to find, the driveway was easy to get in and out of, and parking was not a problem. One thing about the appearance, inside and out, of the building is that it is not what I expected. It is outdated in appearance, which I am sure helps tremendously in his ability to keep his price down so low compared to other doctors doing the same procedure. Dr. Sommers' office area was very clean though, and that is what's important. In his suite you will find a small waiting area with 3 seats, a receptionist area, a small bathroom, the surgery room, and the doctor's small office. All of this is well laid out and gives a nice, cozy, comfortable (almost family like) feeling in the atmosphere. When we arrived, the receptionist gave me my receipt, a doctors note for my husband to be off of work, and a couple others pieces of paper. Once that was taken care of Dr. Sommers took us back to his office and had a brief discussion with us. He told us exactly, using a diagram, what he was going to do. He even explained what each part did. He told us what to expect after the surgery. He told us what we should and should not do after the surgery for a given time including sex, lifting, icing the area, medication, etc.. He was very thorough and asked a couple of times if we had any questions. He then proceeded to personally draw out a map of the streets around his building and the stores I could go to to get frozen peas and medication. He also pointed out a nearby park, which can be seen from his office window, where I could go and get some fresh air if I wanted. I couldn't get over how knowledgeable and professional he appeared during our discussion! He gave us his cell number and told us to text him with any questions or concerns. He also said that he would personally call us the next day to see how my husband was doing, and he did! Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since my husband's surgery and we have texted Dr. Sommers a couple of times, each time he has replied back. My husband's surgery lasted for an hour and a half. My husband was numbed and the surgery began. Besides my husband and Dr. Sommers, there was a female nurse in there helping too. I could hear the three of them talking and at times laughing. My husband said it was a great and comfortable surgery. He said he wasn't uncomfortable at all and while they were doing the surgery he had this great feeling that he was doing something right, by getting the reversal. Our tips; -Frozen peas are the BEST! Wrap the bag in a plastic bag to maintain the coldness longer. We tried other forms of frozen vegetables and ice packs, nothing beats frozen peas. -Take a few days to just sit, use the ice pack off and on, and let your body heal. -Wear briefs after the surgery. -After a day or two you will think you can go for a good walk or climb in and out of vehicles all day, maybe you can, but be careful or you will get sore and achy. -Just bending over for an extended period of time will make "them" ache. -Gravity is not your friend for a while. Our experience; -My husband walked out of the building and into the vehicle without any problem. -My husband didn't take any antibiotics. -He took ibuprofen at times to keep inflammation down, he didn't have much, if any, inflammation. It was just a precaution. -Even after the 2 week mark for * restriction my husband was a touch tender in that area, which is normal. He's good now though. -The incision spots that are stitched back up get a bit hard, that's normal and will go away in time. -My husband had very minimal, short lived, bruising and no swelling. -He didn't have much pain during the recovery, just achiness, and more recently he has to "readjust himself" at times as he becomes more and more active, which is normal, it all takes time. -My husband says he feels better after the reversal, he feels more alert, more energy, more drive, and stamina. Our story; We have 2 children, our youngest is 10. My husband only wanted 2, I wanted 3-5, but he was adamant about only wanting 2. So, when our second child was 2 months old he got a vasectomy. I took it light hearted and shrugged it off as no big deal b/c if God wanted us to have more kids then a vasectomy wasn't going to stop that. We were young, I was 23 and he was 27. Well, after a year he wanted more kids. We were never in a situation to get the reversal, not until last summer when God blessed us tremendously with a promotion and a move. Now it has been 10 years since his vasectomy and he is 37. I don't know if we'll be able to have more children or not, but we'll try and continue to trust the Lord. Even though we believe God is more powerful than a vasectomy, we wondered if he didn't allow us to conceive as a consequence of our "taking over control" by getting the vasectomy in the first place. Whether or not we have more children, we feel this was the right thing to do, undoing our huge mistake. Bottom line. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. Everything was exactly as described on their website and in materials provided by Dr. Sommers before the procedure. The timing of the post-operative requirements was spot on. I had no need to take any medicine beyond some ibuprofen, and I actually went on a flight the day after the procedure to attend an event, and the discomfort was perfectly in line with how it was described. At two weeks, I was back into my exercise routine with running, biking, and gym time all back to normal. The procedure itself was conducted in a very relaxed and comfortable setting and I very much felt at ease. The three of us were chatting up a storm, and any time there was a chance for discomfort, I was warned ahead of time, and asked how thing were going throughout. Hopefully we will be able to provide more feedback on the success of the procedure itself soon. Mike

Words can not even describe how great the vist went. I was concerned about being awake for the procedure I felt no pain through out the procedure. I had little to no swelling and honestly no pain for the entire healing process I credit this to the great Lord above and to dr Sommers ability and by listening to the advice of dr Summers on post surgery procedures. His whole staff was extremely nice and made us feel very comfortable. Glad to be able to have such a great Dr to perform this surgery and at an affordable price with great quality and friendly staff. Initially we had scheduled our procedure for a date that ended up not working out for us. After calling the office you all worked with us over being able to cancel our appointment to a later date with no problem whatsoever. Once we were finally able to book again you made it just as easy as the first time. The help you offered throughout the process, including the issue that happened the morning of the procedure date, was phenomenal. Every question, email, text was all answered in a timely fashion and to the greatest extent possible. I am glad I made the decision to travel from Virginia to come have my procedure done with your clinic and would highly recommend you guys to anyone looking to have this done in the future. My overall experience with Midwest Vasectomy Reversal was great. They did a good job explaining the procedure and what to expect. The most painful part was the anesthetic being introduced (it felt like being flicked over and over again). After that was done it was painless. There was not much pain later that day or the next day after surgery. The most difficult part of the whole process was that I felt like I Was back to normal after a few days but needed to take it easy for 3 weeks to make sure everything healed completely. If I ever need to get a vasectomy reversed again this would be the only place I'd go.
