Coming into this appointment I was anxious and worried about the pain and overall procedure. Upon arrival and meeting with dr sommers he assured me that my vasectomy I had 7 years ago and the pain I experienced with that he was quickly to redirect me this reversal will be nothing like the vasectomy. He was right I talked with dr sommers the whole time and answered everyone of my questions and we talked about family and kids and was spot on every second throughout the procedure. I looked around and called around to other places to have this done and my wife looked at reviews from others who had this done and as a couple we without hesitation went with dr sommers. We paid the down payment and kept in communication through emails. I felt a little tugging on the right side but it only lasted for maybe 5 to 10 seconds after that didn’t feel another thing. I highly recommend dr sommers and his staff if someone is looking to get a vasectomy reversal. The office was very clean and the procedure room was very comfortable. Dr sommers and his staff was very knowledgeable and answered every question my wife and I had in the beginning in the middle and at the end of the procedure. If I had to grade my time it would be an A+ on everything from the first time I contacted the office to when I walked out the doors to come home.

TL;DR Summary: excellent communication leading up to surgery day. Easy scheduling. Excellent pre-and post-operation briefing of what to expect. Pain free during surgery, and the actual procedure took about 1hr 20 minutes (7:25am – 8:45am) . Good communication after surgery by Dr. Sommers to ensure all was well, and 6 days post procedure I am healing nicely with no issues or complications. I did not investigate other providers or their costs, but this was local, within my budget and I believe it is an excellent value and very high quality procedure by an experienced surgeon. I am local to St. Louis which was very convenient for me, and if you are thinking about traveling in for the procedure, rest assured Dr. Sommers is excellent and highly recommended based on my experience. Detailed summary: I had my procedure 6 days ago (5/26/21), so this review is about the before, during and immediately after the procedure. The intended audience is primarily for future patients to hear a first-hand account of my personal experience, and also give credit to the excellent experience I had with Dr. Sommers' and his staff. Dr. Sommers' staff had excellent communications pre and post-operation on their website, in email for information, and when I called with additional questions on the phone. My phone conversation helped answer my additional questions, and Kathy was very patient, and I did not feel rushed at all. I was a little apprehensive about not having a consultation beforehand, but my discussion with Karen definitely set my mind at ease in proceeding with selecting Dr. Sommers to perform my reversal (and in retrospect, a separate consult for me would not have added value, and just unnecessarily consumed both of our time, so you should feel comfortable not having one). Making my appointment online was easy, and when I called the following week to see if there was an opportunity to move up my surgery to an earlier date, they were very accommodating and able to find an earlier date. Their communication via email was very thorough, with excellent details of what to bring, and what to expect during and after the surgery. I chose to pay in advance over the phone, which worked out really well and removed that variable on the day of surgery, and I would recommend this if you can. Dr. Sommers and staff: Dr. Sommers is a friendly, straight-forward, matter-of-fact, and efficient surgeon; he was very thorough in his explanation of the procedure to my wife and me, and I felt comfortable and confident that he was both a skilled surgeon and had done this many times previously. Dr. Sommers was also thorough in his post-op instructions, and also made it very clear that he would be available in case anything seemed wrong and I needed to discuss, and that he would be contacting me the next day to check in. Dr. Sommers did call and text me the next day to check-in to see how I was, and I appreciated this additional step and follow-thru of post-op care. The procedure: no pain at all during procedure. The two-part anesthetizing procedure went very smoothly. The first part was painless and not even uncomfortable, and the skin was quickly numbed, and I did not feel anything when the 2nd round of numbing agent went in. The overall procedure went very quickly much to my surprise and relief; totally time was just under 1.5 hrs. from start to finish. I had mentally prepared myself for it to be longer; since everybody is different, it’s better to be prepared that it could take longer, but I was grateful that it went smoothly and efficiently. Dr. Sommers and his surgery assistant engaged in pleasant conversation during the procedure, which did help to distract and keep my mind off of what was occurring, and helped the time pass more quickly. I certainly had mentally prepared myself for it being a more difficult and uncomfortable experience than it was even close to being. Everyone is different of course, but for me, if I was expecting a 5-6 in discomfort, it ended up being really nothing measureable at all. Being completely numbed, while you know something is moving and going on down there (which is uncomfortable / awkward in general), you shouldn’t feel any pain. I did not use any anxiety medication during the procedure. Breathe deeply and steadily and it will be over before you know it. Post-op: icing is very important, and taking the recommended ibuprofen pain relievers is important as well. I used the narcotic pain reliever on day 1 and day 2, but on day 2 started to feel a little nauseous / light headed / sick to my stomach, so I cut out the narcotics and just stuck with ice and ibuprofen, which was more than sufficient to keep me comfortable. Walking will be the most uncomfortable activity in the days after, so get as much bed rest for the first two days as possible. A jock strap will go a long way to making walking more comfortable, if you really must walk. You will be tender for a few days, just take it easy and don’t try to do too much – a great excuse for takeout and catching up on a few movies. Recommendations to patients: I used a sleep eye mask during surgery, and would recommend this to you, as it will help you relax. Plan on taking at least 1 day off after the surgery, because while you could go back to a desk job, you honestly will just want to rest and keep ice on the area. If possible, I would even recommend two full days of rest and recovery in bed. A jock strap will make walking for the first 4-5 days much more comfortable, so definitely invest in 1 or 2. Dr. Sommers and staff are professional and outstanding, and highly recommended!

My biggest concern was going to be the pain experienced under local anaesthesia. It turned out to be no issue at all. I felt nothing worse than a slight pinch and if there was ever any sort of discomfort the Dr was there with another shot to make it go away. Thank you Dr Sommers, without you we wouldn’t have been able to afford this.

I could write pages on how great Dr. Sommers and Sandra are, but then you're less likely to read the whole thing. I was anxious based on vasectomy experience. Now I regret that time spent worrying. The doc and Sandra truly cared about my comfort. The initial shot for the local is not awesome. I think that's going to be a given. But, after that you're all good. They check on you constantly through the procedure and will add/re-numb if need be. It's awesome how this is a ministry for them. I'm sure they could jack the price up and make more money, but they are doing Kingdom work. People like this keep me praying that I'll be able to work my profession into Kingdom work one day.

We are thrilled to announce a successful vasectomy reversal! I had my reversal done in April 2020, we were pregnant by August 2020, and just welcomed our beautiful daughter this May 2021. My wife and I drive 3 hours for the procedure! We stay in town the night before and the drive to the procedure was very easy! While I was in the procedure my wife was given a prescription for pain medication that she could fill right across the street! SUPER CONVENIENT! The procedure took a lot less time that we both thought it would! All the staff was AMAZING! Helped calm the nerves right away! Would 1000% recommend Dr. Sommers and his staff! We are just at a week out from surgery and I’m feeling great!

My husband had his vasectomy 7 years ago. We are both 34 years old and wanted children together, as we both have children from our previous marriages. He had the reversal done February 18th, 2021. We had a very pleasant experience with the doctor and his office. Dr. Sommers is very well known here in St. Louis. My husband and I were born and raised here. We are very lucky that his office was close to home. My husband had bruising and swelling for a few weeks after his reversal. He iced it like he was supposed to and made sure not to do anything strenuous for at least a couple of weeks. We wanted to make sure it healed well and our chances of conceiving were good. We are happy to say, after our second month of trying... we are expecting!!! Our baby is due December 2021. We are SO incredibly thankful for Dr. Sommers, as this wouldn’t be possible without him. He clearly knows what he is doing and we were pleasantly surprised how quickly we became pregnant! We are forever grateful for what he has done for us. This was one of the best, life changing decisions we made together.

Dr. Sommers and staff were super friendly. He explained everything that he was going to do and what to expect. They are willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have. During the procedure he tells you what he is doing and lets you know what you might feel. I recommend him to anyone who is looking for his services. I had no pain the whole time and recovery is going well. I traveled 5.5 hours from Kansas and returned the same day with no issues. I haven't needed much for the pain except some ibuprofen here and there. Follow his instructions and you shouldn't feel a thing. The past year or so we wrestled with the decision we had made 5 years ago to have a vasectomy, after having our fourth child. Contacting the local health center, their reversal cost was too much for us to handle and that really plagued us with what decision to make. We prayed and knew the Lord would provide us with an answer. My wife found Midwest Vasectomy Reversals while searching online. She went through their entire website, but also found a bunch of other great reviews on other sites. We knew that God had lead us where we needed to go. The cost was surprising compared to the health care faculties' cost but we trusted the reviews and the testimony of Dr Sommers. Setting up the appointment online was super easy. We were traveling from Southern MN so it was an 8 hour drive. We made accommodations to stay near by the night before the procedure and an extra night just to get that rest in after the procedure - the extra day was nice! The process was very straight forward and Dr Sommers explained everything very clearly. I was pretty nervous about the process but my mind was at ease when we were able to have casual conversation during the procedure which made the process and time go by quickly. I felt no pain during the procedure. There has been the normal discomfort since the procedure with a steady decline now a week later, as long as I don't over do it. I've been happy thus far with the entire process and we are hopeful and praying everything turns out.

Great friendly staff. Made me feel comfortable from the time I walked in till the procedure was done. The doctor goes over every detail before beginning the surgery. Once you are well numb and ready to begin the doctor is very thorough in communicating what is happening during the surgery. Taking away any anxiety i had. The nurse on hand was very nice as well. All in all a great experience. I would recommend this office to any family looking to get a reversal. I was comfortable the whole time. Dr. Sommers and his staff did an amazing job. My husband got his vasectomy in 2014. We seen dr. Sommers and had his vasectomy reversal August 2020. We are pleased to say the vasectomy was successful and we are 10 weeks pregnant. We got pregnant on our 5th cycle! This couldn’t of happened without Dr. Sommers. We are forever thankful for you!!!

We had a wonderful experience with my husbands vasectomy reversal. He was getting his reversed after 7 years so we were both very nervous about the process and it’s success. My wife and I had been discussing having a vasectomy Reversal for over a year. After finally making the decision to have the procedure we researched alot of different Dr's. Finally we both decided on Dr. Sommers. The main reasons were the cost for the procedure and many great reviews. It was so easy to book the appointment online. My procedure was scheduled for Monday morning so since we live approximately 4 hours from St. Louis we decided to drive down the day before to make a weekend out of it. The day of my procedure we arrived 15 minutes before had like what was requested per the emails they had sent to me. Once there we had a consultation with Dr. Sommers and he went over the procedure and risks with us. He also answered any questions we had. After that he took me to the room and prepped me for the procedures. The whole procedure was painless. I never felt any pain. I am now 4 days post op and I have had only minor pain and discomfort. I will highly recommend Dr. Sommers and his staff to anyone. They were all very nice and pleasant. I felt comfortable the entire time I was there. I'm hoping my next communication with them will be my wife and I letting them know we are expecting. Thank you Dr. Sommers and your great staff.

From booking the appointment to the actual procedure Dr. Sommers and his staff were fantastic. The day of the procedure my wife and I had a 15 minute consultation with Dr. Sommers where he laid out exactly what was going to happen. He made me feel calm and relaxed. The procedure took a little less than 2 hours and went by quickly and I experienced absolutely no pain. Casual conversation with him during made the time go fast. There is some discomfort after, but it is easily controlled with meds. I am 4 days post and feeling better with each passing day. I would highly recommend Dr Sommers to anyone looking for an affordable, professional reversal.

I’m very satisfied with Dr. Sommers. He described all the details of the Vasectomy reversal and what to expect. Dr Sommers is a very good Doctor, because he operates his own clinic and that he chooses to keep his cost for the vasectomy reversal reasonable. As for the pain and discomfort from the surgery for me it was similar to having the vasectomy. ( Dr. Sommers prescribed a prescription to take care of the discomfort). I had my vasectomy in 2019, and it wasn't very long until I was regretting it. Apparently it took having it done to convince myself I actually wanted more kids. So, like you (if you're reading this), I started searching for vasectomy reversal doctors, and reading reviews. As the procedure is not nearly as common as the vasectomy, it's not like every metro area is teeming with options. I came across Midwest Vasectomy Reversals, saw all of the great reviews, heard about the price, and thought it almost sounded too good to be true. I also really didn't want to be put under for the procedure. So, I went ahead and signed up for the procedure in May 2020. COVID was still "new" at the time, and Dr. Sommers and his staff were very professional with how they handled everything and I felt safe. He described the process when I got there, and made me feel comfortable throughout. He showed me live sperm through a microscope that was on the "live" side of the vas, showing I still had the swimmers there. I didn't feel any pain during the process, was able to chat with Dr. Sommers and his assistant throughout the procedure, and could easily walk out when it was done. My wife drove us back home to Indiana, though honestly I could have driven myself if I had to. I kept the area iced and took it easy as recommended, but the swelling showed up on the second day, and I got the tennis ball sized hematoma thing going on. Dr. Sommers did warn this could happen, and that it would go away over time. I'd say it was about a good 6-8 weeks until everything was normal sized down there again. Nothing was super painful.....but just having huge balls can be annoying and uncomfortable, obviously. I was obviously concerned that it could have had some effect on the procedure, even though Dr. Sommers said it really shouldn't affect it. Well, I'm happy to report, as of December 2020, the wife and I are expecting again! I wanted to wait to write this review until the whole process was through to let whoever is reading this know that it really is worth it. If you've decided that you want to grow your family, the process is quick, affordable, (relatively) painless, and it worked! Thank you Dr. Sommers!

So listen man, I was super nervous; like crazy nervous. I hate all things surgery. This was a walk in the park dude. He made the procedure as easy as possible. During the procedure he talked to me and explained what he was doing, and ensured that everything was going to plan. It was much easier than I made it to be in my mind. I regret how I made it this huge thing when it wasn’t bad at all man. If you’re considering it, don’t stress it at all and make the appointment. I’ll re-review when the Mrs Hamburger has a little burger in the oven.

The worst of the pain is the numbing of the area which feels like a weak rubber band snapping your skin I was able to hold a Steady conversation with the both Dr. Sommers and his assistant during the entire procedure if that says anything about the pain level and any worry about one may have doing this while awake. The fact that the the Doc can talk about his weekend with you while doing this shows his skill and confidence in his passion. After the procedure was completed Dr. Sommers went over all the post procedure info with me and gave me his direct phone number in case of an emergency post reversal. I walked to get my prescription and traveled 6 hours home by car. The day after has been good little to no pain and swelling is at a minimum. I have ZERO regrets about choosing Midwest vasectomy reversal and would recommend them to anyone. Looking back the consultation was unnecessary, but if it takes you seeing it for yourself then that’s up to you. I promise you will be pleased with the process and the environment. One should always walk into this knowing no matter what doctor you choose a vasectomy reversal is not a guarantee.

I was worried about so many things including being from out of state, low cost =low quality, as well as will local anesthesia be enough. I had a horrible vasectomy experience and was very anxious for this procedure. Upon arriving i was a little scared of the location and the building appearance BUT I was immediately relieved after meeting Dr Sommers and the entire staff I dealt with and the atmosphere and warm and friendly care I received was very professional. I was at ease immediately and Dr Sommers explained in great detail the steps and when he was doing any part that may be different. The procedure was really quick and after 2 full-day of postoperative I am feeling fine and confident. Recommend this place 100 % and I am thankful that Heavenly father has placed this low cost provider calling on his heart.

Thank you Dr Sommers. My experience was positive. It was easy to schedule my time to come. Fast response despite the late time (late evening), I wrote. Was easy to find and park my van, at near by parking. The personal/staff was good as well. The paperwork was done quickly. Before procedure I had consultation, procedure by itself, painless I should mention, the question were answered. And in a few hours I was on my way, with advice what to do after procedure. The next day I had the call from Dr Sommers by himself and I was glad to tell him I had no complications, as I followed his advice. I had no need to take strong medication, as ibuprofen was just enough. Thank you all workers in the office, and Dr Sommers again, for the work you do.
