They explained everything to me to their best knowledge and believe it or not, it was exactly the way it went. Very friendly and talked to me all through out the procedure. I mean meeting them for the first time appeared as though we were neighbors. My wife and I were very appreciative of how I was treated with dignity and respect. Post procedure experience was excellent because the Midwest team provide education to fits the need. I was a bit late getting there but the staff were soo patient and offered me help with direction at the same time reassuring me that it will be okay. Dr Sommers and his team were wonderful from the time we stepped into his office until the time we left! We are from Indiana and found Dr Sommers through his website. The reversal is something we had been wanting to do for quite some time. We read reviews and decided it was our time to make the trip for the reversal. Our appt was on a Monday morning at 7:30. We arrived about 10-15 minutes early. Dr Sommers and his team were ready and waiting for us. They explained a few things to us before the procedure and things began right on time. The procedure itself was about 2 hours long. During this time, I was very comfortable and had little to no pain throughout the entire thing. Dr Sommers and I chatted like old friends. He was very informative throughout as well, walking me through step by step what he was doing. Right after the procedure, we opted to make the trip back home. It was about a 4 and a half hour car ride and I’d say my pain stayed right at about a 3 or 4. In the days following the procedure, I followed Dr Sommers instructions and had no issues. My pain stayed manageable and the bruising was minimal. I’m healing up well and can’t thank Dr Sommers and his team enough for giving our family this opportunity at such a reasonable price!

My boyfriend had his vasectomy reversal on 3/6/18, so it's been almost 2 weeks. I'm so happy that we decided to go with Dr. Sommers, he and his staff really make you feel comfortable and are very good at explaining everything. I was a little nervous that about the local anesthesia, but my boyfriend said that there was very little to no pain at all, plus, he wasn't draggy after surgery. We traveled from Orlando, Fl and we flew out the day after our surgery. Other than our flight, we were happy with the entire experience. Fast forward to today, he is in little to no pain at all. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks, him being fully healed and hopefully a positive pregnancy test! If you are looking for a VR doctor, I think Dr. Sommers is a great pick!

My husband's biggest concern was local anesthesia being able to control pain for him. He had a terrible experience 2 years ago with his original vasectomy and was absolutely terrified to have this reversal done. The office staff were all friendly and professional and Dr. Sommer's was very thorough in explaining how everything would go. To my pleasant surprise, my husband said he felt no pain during the surgery and was able to relax after the first side was done. The surgery was the easiest part. Recovery has been a little rough for him as he's developed a hematoma, but it's slowly getting better each day. Thank you Dr. Sommer's!

We're so thankful for Dr. Sommers and his staff. My husband had a vasectomy in February 2010 after the birth of our twins (babies #2 and #3). His vasectomy was a terrible experience as he was never able to get fully numb and as a result had some extreme anxiety considering a reversal. We felt like someone was missing and decided to contact Dr. Sommers to get his opinion on the situation. He explained that the numbing would be different and he didn't expect my husband to have the same issue with the reversal that he had with the initial vasectomy. We had the reversal in January 2017. The surgery went very smooth and my husband had no discomfort during the surgery, he was laying on the table smiling and joking. Our miracle son #4 was born on February 4, 2018 and we feel so blessed to have been able to work with Dr. Sommers.

I regretted getting my vasectomy almost immediately and wondered why I went through with it. The recovery wasn't too pleasant and I felt sick for several days afterwards and spent it curled in a ball on the couch. Even though I regretted it I didn't think I would ever convince myself to get it reversed. My wife and I have 6 kids together and I thought no more. My wife was really upset about the vasectomy and cried all the way home after the procedure and frequently for the next year until I made the appointment to get it reversed. That year I had a lot of pressure and discomfort off and on down there due to everything being capped off which made it a little easier to convince myself to get it reversed but not much. My wife and I had talked about it frequently, things came up in Bible reading and sermons at church that made me feel more and more convicted that I shouldn't have got it done but I didn't know if I should get it reversed. It took a lot of prayer before I decided to. From the time I made the appointment I was stressed, worried, scared and lost a lot of sleep over the deal. The Friday before my Monday appointment I woke to lower back pain that took me 30 minutes to overcome enough to get up. I haven't had back issues in over 2 years. Of course I couldn't get into the Chiropractor that day. This was discouraging and only added to my anxiety and fear of the procedure and recovery. We dropped the children off that night and drove down to St. Louis the next day. It was a very long and painful, unpleasant drive due to my back and had to stop frequently to get up and stretch my back because it hurt so bad. We did find a walk in chiropractor clinic that was open Sunday in St. Louis and it definitely helped but my back still was not good. I did not sleep much at all the night before the procedure and basically just watched movies all night long. We arrived the next morning for the early appointment not knowing what to expect. I just prayed we made the correct choice for a doctor and that my recovery wasn't a double whammy with my whole mid section in agony for several weeks. There were many things that factored into our decision to chose Dr. Sommers. I'm afraid of being put under, the reviews were almost all good, he is a believer, he's had a vasectomy and reversal, but most of all cost. Cost was also one of the biggest reasons I was unsure if we had chosen the correct doctor. My first impression of the building was this is really a strange looking place. We got off the elevator and it was like we were looking at all the "back doors" on the Matrix. Dr. Sommers was super nice, very understanding and accommodating of my back, explained everything very well, answered questions. The no needle anesthetic worked fine, I don't know if I'd say it was better or worse than a needle, both are not pleasant. The procedure went very smooth and I believe went faster than normal. I was able to text my wife, and conversation with the nurse and doctor was pleasant. Dr. Sommers explained what he was going to do before he was going to do it so there was no question what was going on which was nice. I had a very hard time getting up afterwards because of my back and I don't know if I stood up too fast or if it was all that anxiety and stress being released but I felt really dizzy, and hot, like I was going to pass out for about 15-20 minutes after. I've had this kind of thing happen only 2 other times in my life, one when I was in Afghanistan and once when I got a call at work my daughter had a battery stuck her throat(thankfully she's fine BTW...). Why this stressed me out on that level I'm not sure because within an hour of the procedure I was feeling pretty good (minus my back). I spent the rest of the day driving with ice, to collect our children and get home. I slept well that night and quite a bit the next day, but really wasn't in any discomfort other than my back. There was minimal bruising, almost none on the right side and at day 5 its almost gone. Besides my back the worst part of the recovery has been things sticking where they didn't before the night before preparation. I would recommend Dr. Sommers. He is definitely experienced and skillful which I feel was evident in the procedure and the recovery thus far.

Kathy (RN) and Dr. Sommers as well assistant Sandy were very professional, informative and caring. I am 3 days post-op and things seem to be progressing along in recovery. Aside from the much anticipated discomfort everything is as the office informed us post-op would be. I can’t thank the office enough for everything you did for us as we prepared for our life-changing procedure.

My husband and I drove from Northern Illinois the night before and stayed in a hotel because he had a 7:30 procedure. We had to reschedule from our initial appointment because I had to travel for work and the office was very accommodating with that. When we arrived the lady that greeted us was very kind and upbeat. We spoke to the doctor before the procedure and he answered all of our questions and made us feel as ease. My husband had excessive swelling with his vasectomy and had a very bad experience with that doctor, so he was concerned he might have the same pain/swelling with the reversal. Local anesthesia was definitely enough to control the pain during the procedure, and I could hear them laughing and talking throughout- my husband was even able to text me and let me know the progress. It’s 3 days post op now and the swelling has been far less than with the vasectomy and I am sure that has to do with Dr. Sommer’s technique and capabilities. I would recommend him to anyone, even if this reversal isn’t successful. His bedside manner combined with his qualifications make him an excellent choice, and I know he has done what he can to help us. I have already posted a review for MVR, giving it 5 stars (look for the name "Isaiah" posted Oct 12, 2017) as it met and exceeded our expectations in every way. That review was written just two days after the surgery. Well, here we are just over 3 months later. In a month I would be due to have my sperm count checked to see if the surgery was really a success, but I now know that is unnecessary. My wife discovered -- to our simultaneous shock and delight -- that she is pregnant! This is especially surprising as I was 12+ years post-vasectomy when I had the reversal. Honestly, we weren't expecting a quick turnaround like this, let alone a pregnancy in the first year or so. Fortunately, Dr. Sommers knows what he is doing and you can trust him. We pray that the pregnancy goes well, and that the baby grows strong healthy. And when we have pics of the little one to share, we'll do so. Thanks again, Dr. Sommers!

My fiancé and I could not be happier with our experience with Dr. Sommers. When I found them online we were somewhat skeptical because of the low cost and having to travel 4 hours from our home in Indiana. I set up a phone call with Kathy and she answered every question we had and was very knowledgeable of the whole process. She eased our nerves and made us feel confident in our choice. I was still nervous all the way up to the procedure because I remembered the pain during my vasectomy, but the anesthetic Dr Sommers uses is phenomenal. The procedure was virtually painless. He and his nurse were very personable. He took the time to draw out a map for my fiancé of the local area in case she wanted to wander while I was in the procedure. After the procedure was finished I received the prescription for the pain medicine but I haven’t even filled it yet. I’ve just been using ibuprofen and some ice. Very mild soreness is all I’ve experienced. I would recommend to anyone looking to get a reversal done to use MVR.

My experience with Midwest Vasectomy Reversals was fantastic! I initially came for a consultation, and decided a few weeks later to have the procedure. I was somewhat nervous about the procedure itself, and particularly the recovery. I'd had a vasectomy several years ago, and the recovery was more painful than anticipated. Dr. Sommers explained the process in detail, which alleviated most of my angst. I am happy to say that the procedure was SO much better than I'd anticipated. My husband and I decided to try for another child after the tragic loss of our youngest. He was 5 years post vasectomy, and we both were over age of 40. I researched doctors and came across several success stories from patients of Dr. Sommers. We flew out to St. Louis for the surgery on 12/22/2016. His recovery went well. He did say it hurts more than the vasectomy, but the doctor and clinic manage process well. We conceived quickly and our baby girl was born early but healthy in Sept. 2017! The process of scheduling and the appointment went smoothly and both the doctor and nurse were incredibly helpful and genuinely nice. We highly recommend Dr. Sommers!

The staff was extremely nice and professional and addressed all concerns prior to the VR. There wasn't much pain and swelling bruising was minimumal. I would recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone seeking a reversal.

The doctor sat and talked to us both to make sure we were comfortable with everything before moving forward. The receptionist was also a delight to speak with and she gave great information as well. Dr. Sommers and associates were very helpful through the entire process. The procedure was quick and virtually painless, slight discomfort was all that I felt at anytime through the surgery. I had a vasectomy done about 6 years ago and had a bad experience. Lately however my wife and I have been wanting to expand our family and she began looking into reversal surgery. From my previous experience I wasn't very excited about the thought of having to go through all the pain especially in that area. Also another concern was the cost of reversals. I ended up running into a friend I hadn't seen in awhile and somehow the subject of kids came up. He had recently gotten remarried and because of that had gotten a reversal so him and his new wife could try having children. During the procedure at the office obviously I was a little nervous with how things would go. Once it began however it went by very quickly and during the procedure I felt no pain or discomfort which was a great surprise. I actually got done well before the time it was supposed to take which to me shows how well Dr. Sommers does and also how comfortable I felt during the procedure. Well I am on day three after surgery and have been pleasantly surprised at my recovery so far. The discomfort the first day was minimal, but quickly relinquished with some over the counter Tylenol. The swelling and overall discomfort is nothing like my vasectomy had been. I did a lot of research on different facilities before choosing Midwest Vasectomy Reversals. I was a little apprehensive because my original vasectomy was so painful, but Dr. Sommers assured me that his no-needle local anesthesia works remarkably well. That is an understatement! During the procedure he was very thorough about informing me of what he was doing and what, if anything, I should be feeling. During the procedure Dr. Simmers & his nurse had great conversation with me and kept me at ease. I was very worried about pain afterwards because I had connecting flights and layovers to get home.. I didn't even have to fill the pain killer prescription! Dr Sommers was very professional, his facility was very clean, he was affordable, he contacted me personally after I was home to make sure I was feeling well & everything was healing as it should, and I just truly felt like he and his nursing staff truly cared about my outcome. I would recommend Dr Sommers to anyone looking to have their vasectomy reversed.

My wife and I could not have been more pleased with Dr Sommers and his staff at Midwest Vasectomy Reversals. Sure we had to travel from out of town, but the drive was really easy and his office is located in a nice, historical section of St Louis with a wonderful hotel called the Cheshire Inn 1 mile away. There is a Walgreens and grocery store across the street that will have everything you will need. While we were researching different options, my wife got on several forums and facebook groups, and Dr Sommers was highly recommended by a lot of people. The cost is dramatically less than it would be to have done where I live. While some may be concerned that the low price is a sign of low quality (I am usually one of these people as well), those fears are completely inaccurate in this situation. The main reason for the low cost is that you are awake during the procedure, and thus there is no need for an anestesiologist (sp) or a hospital visit. And after the procedure was over, the first thing I thought was how much I wouldve kicked myself if I had paid an extra 6 or 8 thousand dollars to be unconscious for fear of pain. THERE IS NO PAIN! Also, much to my surprise and delight, THERE IS NO NEEDLE! Dr Sommers numbs you with this liquid spray that does an exceptional job. During my original vasectomy, done by a local urologist at a hospital, I experienced pain during the numbing process (thanks to the needle) and sometimes severe pain during the actual procedure. Naturally, I had some fear that this could be the same or worse. But from the start, this was a breeze and completely painless. In fact, the numbing agent didnt wear off at all until a couple of hours after my surgery. When it did, there was some mild discomfort, but not what I would call pain at all. I cannot recommend Dr Sommers enough. He and his staff are very professional yet very friendly and talk to you throughout the procedure and help calm any nerves you may have. The bottom line is this...Dr Sommers and staff are wonderful, exceptionally skilled, and very affordable. He is an expert in his field, and I would rather pay an expert 2k and make a nice and easy trip to the procedure than pay a local dr who dont do many of these at all 4 times the money. Its common sense. Again I reaffirm...at least in the care of Dr Sommers, this was a PAINLESS procedure.
