My experience with MVR was very similar to most reviews I read prior to my appointment, but I’ll rehash to point out my positives. I had a 10:00AM appointment and was in the office about 20 minutes early. Kathy greeted me nicely and informed me that they were running a few minutes behind and apologized for the inconvenience. I let her know it was no problem. After only a 10 minute delay I met with Dr. Sommers. He explained to me the entire procedure and what to expect pre and post-surgery. After about 5 – 10 minutes of talking with Dr. Sommers I went into the operating room and prepared myself for the procedure. Dr. Sommers gave me the local anesthesia. The first dose was a bit uncomfortable but I expected it to be. The following doses hurt considerably less. After about a 5 minute wait for the anesthesia to begin working, Dr. Sommers began. He and his assistant explained everything they were doing and kept me engaged throughout the process. My right side went off without a hitch and I didn’t feel a thing. My left side was a bit more uncomfortable but Dr. Sommers gave me a bit more anesthesia. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience but it was far from unbearable. I knew going into the procedure that this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park but I must say the expectations of pain far outweighed the actual pain of the procedure. I was done in about 70 – 75 minutes. One aspect that I wanted to mention was the fact that Kathy took my script for the pain medicine and physically took it to the pharmacy of my choice (5 minutes from their office vs. the pharmacy across the street). This was so important to me because I didn’t have to wait 15 minutes in the pharmacy while the script was filled. This attention to detail, though some may consider it minor, completely made my day because I wanted to get off my feet. I came alone to the procedure as my wife was home with our children. It was a four-hour drive home so I decided to stay in Chesterfield for the evening. I was out of Dr. Sommers office by 12:00PM, hit the local pharmacy, grabbed lunch and was checked into my hotel by 1:45PM the same afternoon. After a short nap I was logged into my work network getting work done. I was easily able to go out to dinner during the evening with minimal discomfort. All I took was OTC ibuprofen and was able to bypass the prescribed pain meds. I had minimal bleeding the rest of the day. The following morning I was pretty swollen and bruised but this was to be expected. I drove home without issue and was back at work less than 48 hours after the procedure. All in all this was a very positive experience and I wouldn’t change anything I did. I’m glad I didn’t drive home after the procedure, but easily could have if necessary (assuming I didn’t take the pain meds). Having the cash discount was a nice perk too.

We drove 4 1/2 hours to see Dr. Sommers because of all of the amazing reviews and we weren't dissapointed. My husband was a bit nervous but Dr. Sommers was great about explaining the procedure and what to expect. The staff was very kind and professional. I had a great experience with Midwest Vasectomy reversals. I went to St. Louis from South Carolina to have the procedure. I met with Dr. Sommers the morning of my procedure for the consultation. He went over what he would be doing and answered all of my questions. He had great bedside manner, great personality and was very professional. I was concerned about the local anesthesia, but surprisingly experienced no pain throughout the procedure. I highly reccomend Dr. Sommers!

Like most guys who were looking into this, I was extremely hesitant to have another elective surgery. One vasectomy was enough and since I'm healthy otherwise, why would I want to put myself back on a table under bright lights? I'm 41 years old and have two boys from a previous marriage who are 16 & 20...then I meet the woman of my dreams, with no kids yet, who helps me to be happy every day and I can only wish it was her I'd met when I was younger. The only thing missing is a child of our own. That was the answer to why I ended up on the table. With a little bit of luck I was able to schedule my appointment at the beginning of a 2 week vacation, due to a cancellation. I am 500 miles away so everything was done over the phone. When we arrived, we were greeted by staff and Dr. Sommers who made me feel a little better, however I was scared to death so it was going to take a lot. Once on the table, Dr. Sommers gave the local anesthetic and described step by step what he was doing and what to expect. He and his assistant were skilled in not only the art of keeping my mind off what was going on down there but also keeping me comfortable during the entire procedure. Anyone who thinks they need risky general anesthesia and the extra cost involved is nuts. There was so little discomfort, and before I knew it, he was putting in the last suture. I can't comment on whether or not it worked for me and likely won't know for a few months, since I'm only 1 1/2 weeks out, however I feel pretty good. What I can say is that from start to finish I was treated with professionalism and honesty about what to expect. Dr. Sommers has been in contact with me personally to follow up on the healing process and to make sure every question is answered. Being in the medical field myself, that speaks volumes to his dedication and desire for patient satisfaction. I was very nervous but the staff really worked hard to take my mind off the procedure. The surgery itself was fast and relatively painless. The madajet was a shock the first time to each side, but a lot less intrusive than a needle. I had some mild discomfort during the surgery which Dr Sommers quickly alleviated with more numbing. Healing was not to bad, and although i still have some mild discomfort its is nearly gone today 1 week out. I hope to report back a pregnancy soon. I do not regret the procedure and would do it again. I would wholeheartedly recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversal. Top notch staff, very responsive before during and after surgery. I can not say enough good things about Dr Sommers and staff. Professionals that care.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at MVR. Everything went very smoothly for us. The staff was very welcoming and made me feel very at ease. It took longer but I felt much more comfortable than my original vasectomy. We took a few years to pray this decision over, looking at all possibilities for doctors to do this procedure. Finally landing on Dr. Sommers. We are so happy that we did. I had my vasectomy done at age 28. 3 years later at age 31 had the reversal. Happy to report that I had my VR done on June 15 and wife had a positive pregnancy test on her birthday July 25! First try. I had a vasectomy in a previous marriage. My wife Holly has never had children so I decided to have a reversal. We both want children very bad. We discovered Midwest reversals through the internet. The whole process from making the appointment,to having the procedure was easy. The staff is very welcoming and polite. The operation was painless and Dr. Sommers was very gentle (If you know what I mean.) Even tho the price was cheaper than others, the work itself was top notch. The recovery was better than the original vasectomy. The hard part for me is the waiting period to start trying to conceive. My wife and I can't to send some pictures of a new baby. Dr Sommers and his staff treated my wife and I absolutely amazing! After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of reviews, We decided to drive from Ohio to St Louis to get the procedure done. I was a little reluctant at first because of the cost being half the price of any place in Ohio. But, Dr Sommers did a great job explaining the procedure and about local anesthetic. The procedure seemed to go fast but exactly as long as Dr Sommers said. It was or seemed a lot easier and less painful than my original vasectomy. I was given aftercare instructions, followed them precisely, and I healed very fast with no problems. My wife and I got married 1 1/2 years ago. Both of us had previously been married, I have 2 girls from my marriage and she had none and wanted to have her own child. I had a vasectomy done after my 2nd child was a few years old, which had been done approximately 13 years ago now. 6 months after we got married, we checked into getting a reversal, as some of you know this can be very costly and insurance does not help with it. Feeling a little discouraged with the prices we were finding in our state of Iowa we researched a little bit farther and found Midwest Vasectomy Reversals out of Chesterfield, MO, which was only a 3 hour drive for us and very reasonable priced. We got our appointment set up in August and found out in May we were pregnant. The staff there is amazing and very caring of their patients they see and are very helpful after the procedure is done and answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend this place to everyone looking to expand their family.

The entire process was very easy. From the consultation to the procedure everything went flawlessly. Midwest vasectomy reversal was convenient for me as I live in the area but if I had to travel to have this done I would have been pleased. Dr. Summers and his staff were very personable and polite. As far as the pricing for the procedure, please do not assume you are dealing with an unprofessional doctor. The office was spotless and the equipment used was clean and up to date. The waiting area for your spouse is also very quiet and nice. I had almost no pain or discomfort during the procedure and these following days after have been surprisingly comfortable. I learned about Dr. Sommers a few years ago. I researched and was impressed by his dedication and compassion concerning this procedure. He was extremely efficient. I did not experience any pain during my reversal only slight discomfort. He was very friendly and thorough. I would highly recommend him and his staff to anyone interested in pursuing a reversal. He maintains personal contact in following up with his patients and was very impressed by this.

TRULY A BLESSING! (Procedure performed 2 weeks ago today - 5/21/2015) I was dedicated to having the procedure done in order to restore my openness to life prior to getting remarried. However, as I called around the midwest, the costs were $5-8K, and I was beginning to get discouraged. I came across a website dedicated to listing physicians around the country who were committed to providing low cost reversals as a ministry or calling. I was looking for 3 things: scheduling (i was getting married in less than 90 days), reasonable cost (less than $5K), and i wanted a physician that understood a patient's spiritual need could be as important as his fertility. Every step of the way, my experience was excellent. The staff provided excellent information & was very friendly and concientious. I was able to get it scheduled right away (about 3 weeks out), and I liked being able to do it online. The cost was very reasonable at $3K (the $200 discount was very nice!). And all of the information abou the procedure & recovery that Dr Sommers provided was spot on to what I experienced. On the day of my procedure, I got up early and drove from KC to St Louis with my fiance. Upon arriving, we got started with the consult, and even though Dr Sommers' delivery of the info seemed rote, he certainly took time to answer all the questions we had. During the procedure, I was very comfortable and only twice did I experience any discomfort. I was very impressed with how Dr Sommers was very attentive to any possible expression of discomfort or pain. I also appreciated how he took me to the microscope upon conclusion of the procedure to show me sperm that was recovered from my left testicle. I was comfortable on the 4 hour drive home (I should have thought to bring a small cooler to keep the packages of frozen peas!). I was pretty exhausted that night and slept long but without pain. By the next day I started weaning myself off of the prescription painkillers and only needed to rely on advil for the next few days. My recovery went extremely well, but I was concientious in following the post-op instructions (taking meds as prescribed, no lifting more than 15 lbs for 3 weeks, etc) and didn't try to rush the recovery (although I did have to fly for business 4 days after the procedure...I had to get a roller bag and pack very light!...but there were no issues at all with traveling). The "boys" were never really sore....just kind of tender for about a week. I did experience some swelling and some painless bruising, but it was exactly as Dr Sommers said it would be so it didn't freak me out. The entire experience was more than I could've hoped for, both physically & spiritually. Thanks Dr Sommer's decision to follow his conscience a few years ago & use a business model that helps men affordably reverse past mistakes/decisions, I am open again to the possibility of life.

Our experience was excellent with Midwest Vasectomy Reversals. My fiancé and I have been searching for an affordable option for vasectomy reversal for some time now. We didn’t realize we would find someone so close to home. When we came across the website for Midwest Vasectomy Reversals we were a little apprehensive. However, through countless hours of research were hardly able to find anything bad to be said about the place which made my fiancé even more skeptical. We decided to try Dr. Sommers anyway and were very pleasantly surprised! The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Dr. Sommers was exceptionally thorough with his consultation and the procedure. All of our questions were answered before, during and after the procedure. I was awake during the procedure and the local anesthesia was enough that I did not feel any pain. I did feel some pressure at one point but that was expected and the doctor made sure I was comfortable the entire time. It only took a little under 2 hours. I have experienced little pain since the procedure, mostly controlled by over the counter ibuprofen. It’s been 4 days now and I’m feeling pretty good. We are very pleased with Dr. Sommers, his staff and his work.

My vasectomy was over 9 years old when I decided to get the reversal surgery. After reading so many positive reviews it was a no brainer for us to consult Dr Sommers. He provided us with tons of information about the procedure and what it would entail. During the procedure his bedside manner was comforting. We couldn't have been more pleased. Also the office staff was superb.

My wife found Dr. Sommers through Google for me; we were looking for a cheaper alternative for reversal as the cheapest near me was over 7500! I flew in from Florida not knowing what to expect, when I got to the office I was a little nervous, when I walked through the door I was met with very professional and courteous staff! I had such a good time talking to the woman at the desk and the nurse I almost forgot what I was doing there, when Dr. Sommers came through the door he immediately shook my hand and introduced himself, he was very, very nice and professional it made me feel good that I chose to go here, and I flew in from Florida so I didn’t know what to expect. Before I flew out they were very good at answering any questions I had before I even booked my flight. When I was in the office Dr. Sommers took me into his office room and went over every single detail that he and the nurse were going to be doing, nothing was left out. I felt very comfortable and he was very reassuring in the details he was giving me. The procedure didn’t take very long and I wasn’t in any pain at all. If I had to rate the staff on a 1-10 scales 1 being ok to 10 being exceeding my expectations I would give them and Dr. Sommers 99. I understand this may or may not work what I had done but I am going to be giving it my all and when I find out I will be posting back to Dr. Sommers. I would recommend flying out to St. Louis any day of the week to get a reversal as I believe it is worth it 10 fold, it was such a beautiful area and the people were very awesome, if I ever get another chance to visit St. Louis I would visit Dr. Sommers just to say hi, they were such great people and it is people like that you will always remember.

Dr Sommers and his staff at Midwest Vasectomy Reversals are very professional and freindly. My reversal procedure went almost exactly as described, I was comfortable and experienced no discomfort. It has been almost 25 years since my vasectomy, but my wife Bree and I are very hopeful and optimistic about being bessed with childern. We will keep you posted.

I had my procedure done approx 4 years post-vasectomy. The office staff was very professional and polite. The office is fairly non-descript, has a waiting room, physician office, and a procedure room. Did not have the look and feel of a multimillion dollar surgery center, felt more like a doctors office. The reversal procedure was slightly uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as the original vas. It took approx 3 hours. Everything went as explained...no surprises. Was back on my feet about 3 days later (had no trouble getting up to use bathroom or grab food from fridge during those 3 days), and took it easy for several weeks per doc's instructions. Recovery was quicker/easier than original vas. I was somewhat skeptical that it was going to work, but after 3 months of being purposeful with trying to conceive, got two lines on the pregnancy test. Highly recommend, and had a great experience.

Nearly every surgeon I've ever met seemed to speak "down" to me. Dr. Sommers is an ordinary man with extraordinary skills and one of the most humbled doctors I've met. What doctor has ever helped u get dressed after surgery? He wasn't "above" just being an everyday caring person. Personally, Ichose Dr. Sommers primarily because of his religious faith and his call to serve others. However, if ur worried that the good doctor is going to push his beliefs onto you, u need not worry. The doctor never mentioned anything about religion until I prompted him and we certainly had a great conversation. Dr. Summers and his staff made us feel very welcome and we didn't feel like we were just another number walking through their office door. The doctor sat down with both of us to explain everything in detail. He didn't make us feel rushed and he took the time to answer our questions. Upon arrival, we met with the receptionist. She is a warm and welcoming woman with a good sense of light humor. She completed some paperwork and final billing. She made us comfortable until the doctor could meet with us. Once the doctor was finished with his first appointment, he greeted us and invited us to his office. Within minutes, I realized that at the very least, I trusted this man and I had made the right decision in choosing him for my procedure. We then met his medical assistant. She is another warm and welcoming woman that made us feel so much at ease. I'll say this....any staff can do their best to make u feel warm and fuzzy, but if you r a good judge of character, it doesn't take much to tell if they are full of b.s. And trying to just make some money. Dr. Sommers staff is the real deal....very genuine and caring. Dr. Sommers explained the procedure as he was performing it. The numbing injections were were a breeze and not painful at all. I had some minor issues of getting numbed in a particular area. The doctor stopped everything to make sure I was comfortable and properly numbed. Before I knew it, the procedure was done! im not typically a very talkative person, but I found it very easy to converse with the doctor and his assistant. The doctor was very focused on his work. He had steady hands and I'm not sure that I ever saw the man blink his eyes! I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about the doctor and his staff. I really walked out of his office believing the man should be getting paid more for the work he performs. If you are looking for a great doctor and staff at a very affordable rate for a virtually pain free procedure, you have found the right place. I traveled almost 4 hours and it was worth it! I was very nervous heading into the procedure but it went very well. Dr. Sommers was very knowledgable and answered all my questions before i could even ask. I was concerned at first because of the lower cost but i quickly figured out the cost didn't effect the attention and quality. When we first starting looking into getting my reversal it looked pretty slim but luckily we found Dr. Sommers and thanks to Midwest Vasectomy Reversals my wife and i will get the opportunity to grow our family and we thank you so much for that!

I received great care from Dr. Sommers and I would certainly recommend him to others. I was VERY nervous about this procedure, I don't like blood, and I don't like needles, much less anything more. After much worrying I decided to go ahead with the local anesthetic procedure offered by Dr. Sommers. Dr. Sommers helped me to relax when I arrived, answered my questions and talked me through the entire procedure. There was some feeling, but not at all painful. The time passed quickly as well. It was surprisingly less painful than my original vasectomy! I was on my way home to recover well within the time Dr. Sommers scheduled me for. The recovery was about the same as my vasectomy, rested and kept the area clean and on ice. Dr. Sommers provided great after care instructions. I followed them and healed quickly.
